Care for your Cozzy 🍋

You stalked the heck out of that particular cozzy and that particular colour before finally purchasing it. How many times did you return to our website or the original photo you saw of your dream swimsuit that made you fall madly crazy over? Rather don’t answer, stalker. Now that you have it, you’ll want it to last for as long as it possibly can. Its not just an overpriced piece of Lycra Spandex like your parents think. It’s what you’re going to spend the bulk of your most marvellous adventures in. You’ve made a great choice to purchase a well-made cozzy from the best swim fabric money can buy, but Lycra Spandex still only has a lifespan of about 3-4 years, depending on how regularly you wear your cozzy, your activity level, and most importantly, how well you take care of it from the start. You want to give your new adventure bud the best life you can, so here are a few tips to prolong its life:

  • Always always always rinse your cozzy, whether you’ve been swimming in salt or chlorinated water.
  • Even if you only wore it just to tan, rinse it anyway. Sun-cream, sweat and your own natural oils will cause staining.
  • If it needs more than a rinse, hand washing always is best if you want to keep the shape and colour in tact: Soak it in cold water with some mild detergent. No bleach. You can use the cold start of your shower water and a dash of shampoo to wash it if you take it into the shower with you.
  • To whiten a white bikini, you can soak it in half a cup of baking soda dissolved in a litre or two of water for a few hours. Rinse and dry in the shade.
  • Sunshine will eventually fade and break down fibres in your cozzy, so when you aren’t wearing it, keep it out of the sun.
  • An occasional delicate-cycle, cold machine wash in a mesh bag or pillowcase is fine too.
  • After rinsing, you can lay your cozzy out on one side of a towel, cover it with the other half of the towel, and press gently to absorb excess water. Then lay it flat to dry.
  • Wringing your cozzy and tumble drying will damage its fibres, so those are obvious no-no’s.
  • Sunfair promotes a “choose well, buy less” way of shopping, however, having another favourite cozzy and alternating between the two will help the Lycra Spandex fibres to regain their memory shape after a day.
  • Sitting on a beach towel instead of rough rocks, poolside bricks or a wooden deck will help reduce the risk of making snags in your cozzy.
  • Remember to love your cozzy with all your heart, and always always rinse it!
